Norbert NOZY  
Since 1985 conductor, virtuoso saxophonist and professor Norbert NOZY (Halen (B), 1952) has been the conductor of the Symphonic Band of the Belgian Guides Regiment. He studied at the Brussels Royal Conservatory of Music and the Lemmens Institute in Louvain and was awarded First Prizes for solfeggio, transposition, percussion, chamber music, harmony, and counterpoint as well as the Superior Degree for saxophone. He studied conducting with André Vandernoot, Léonce Gras, Yvon Ducène and Jean-Sébastien Béreau at the Paris Conservatory. Victor Legley was his teacher for fugue.

He is one of the most famous representatives of the Belgian Saxophone School. In 1970 he was awarded the national "Pro Civitate Prize" and in 1973 he won the International Gaudeamus Contest for Contemporary Music. He was a member of the Belgian Saxophone Quartet and the Belgian Saxophone Ensemble from 1972 to 1975 and represented Belgium at several international saxophone conventions. In 1973-74 he was visiting lecturer and teacher at the North Texas State University. In 1975 he joined the Great Symphonic Band of the Belgian Guides as a saxophonist. In 1984 he was appointed Bandmaster of the Band of the First Belgian Corps in Cologne. He has taught the saxophone at the Lemmens Institute and the Maastricht Conservatory (The Netherlands) and is currently professor of saxophone and wind band conducting at the Royal Brussels Conservatory of Music where he also conducts the students' symphonic band. Norbert Nozy regularly gives master classes in Belgium and abroad and has already given recitals in many European countries as well as in Africa, Asia and America. He is also regularly invited to perform as a soloist with the major Belgian symphonic orchestras. In 1991 he was awarded the Fugue Trophy of the Belgian Composers Union in recognition of his continuous promotion of Belgian music. This CD is another illustration of his great talent.
