Born in 1922 in New York, Elmer Bernstein is one of the most remarkable composers in Hollywood. After studying at the University of New York, he worked, during his military service, for Glenn Miller. From 1951, he began to introduce into movies a more modern orchestration and with his score for The Ten Commandments by Cecil B. De Mille, he was recognised as a great composer. However his music for The Magnificent Seven has always been his most popular success. This Western, adapted by John Sturges from the Japanese film The Seven Samourais by Akira Kurosawa, brought together in 1960 a magnificent team of actors such as Yul Bryner, Steve McQueen and Charles Bronson. |
