Bio

Born in 1954 in Mettet, Sr. Capt. Alain Crepin studied saxophone, cello and piano at the Music Academy of Dinant (Belgium).

He attended the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, where he graduated and obtained the Superior Diplomas in Saxophone (class of François Daneels) and in chamber music. He was also awarded a First Prize in harmony and in counterpoint. Alain Crepin also studied fugue, orchestration and orchestra-direction. He has served as a saxophone teacher at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels since 1981.

In 1975, Alain Crepin joined the Band of the Gendarmerie as a saxophonist. >From 1981 till 1983 he completed successfully the examination for bandmaster and went to the Royal Band of the Belgian Guides. After being promoted to 2nd Lieutenant, he led the Band of the Chasseurs Ardennais for 11 months. In 1984, he became bandmaster of the Belgian Air Force Band.

From 1986 till 1997 he was Vice-President of the International Association for the Promotion of the Saxophone. In 1998 he was elected a member of the Administration Council of the Saxophonist Association (Paris - France). Alain Crepin was also a teacher at the European Universities of Saxophone in Gap (France) and Alicante (Spain).

As a composer, he has written numerous works for wind and fanfare bands, and various works for soloist and piano, including "A Tribute To Sax", written to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the death of Adolphe Sax, the inventor of his favourite instrument.

He has recorded 37 CD's as a soloist or conducting the Royal Band of the Belgian Air Force. Frequently, he is invited to be a member of the jury at international music contests. As guest conductor he has appeared with many orchestras in France, Spain, Luxembourg, Hungary, ... and accompanied well-know soloists.

In 1990, Alain Crepin took an active part in the organisation of the Days of Saxophone in Dinant. He is also secretary of the International Contest of Saxophone. On November 7, 1998, under his baton, the greatest gathering of saxophonists was held in Dinant. Officials of the Guinness Book of Records noted the presence of 1236 saxophonists.
