Festliche Ouvertüre is composed as a concert opening piece with mainly symphonic conceptions. It is mostly inspired by the musical language of composers from the late 19th and early 20th century like Gustav Mahler, Maurice Ravel and Claude Debussy, but also in parts by Béla Bartók and Modest Mussorgsky.
Its compositional main structure is received basically through the playing with and processing of motivic and thematic elements, that first were born and generated in a rather free and undisturbed environment, increasingly attempting to attain a more and more sharpening figure, that is clearing out of the haze of the former origin. These thus developed motivic and thematic elements will now be dominated by the ruling force of the musical form and hence see themselves confronted with constantly changing situations. Ultimately, after a short attempt of liberation, the elements will be crushed down to their cores and reduced to simple textures that constitute the late compositional fabric. These thereby gained building blocks are then provided with the possibilities to offer new but not mentioned compositional options that will be left for the imaginations of the audience.
The musical elements, that have been developed in this overture, are specific derivatives gained from the composer‘s first suite. These both works are considered to behave as mutual sibling pieces.
