"Turbulences" refers to a kind of agitation, disorder, such as an airplane entering an area of ??turbulence. Of course rhythm plays a major role :
The accentuation sometimes gives a feeling of acceleration of the pulsation whereas the superpositions of rhythmic figures sometimes create a confusion in the musical discourse. The central part offers a striking contrast of character. An expressive, calm and nostalgic waltz makes us forget the initial agitation and evolves tenderly, in a carefree and almost childlike naivety. This waltz will be featured again towards the end of the work in all its freshness and spontaneity. The agitation will still have the last word, leading the orchestra into an accelerando and final crescendo.
