Dedicated to the Russian-Armenian composer Aram Khachaturian, the Symphonic Dances is a colorful work in five movements. Dynamic and flashy, each section is descriptive of a particular dance: Dance of Joy, Girl's Dance, Dance Caprice, The Yalli Round Dance, and Dance of the Djigits. The use of mixed meters and various modes gives the work its exotic flavor.
